“David Wojnarowicz: History Keeps Me Awake at Night” is the first major presentation of the work of Wojnarowicz in more than a decade. American painter David Wojnarowicz (1954-1992) came to prominence in the East Village art world of the ’80s, actively embracing all media and forging an expansive range of fiercely political, richly imagined and highly personal work. He was 37 when he died from AIDS-related complications.

The director of the Whitney Museum and a co-curator of the Wojnarowicz show, David Breslin, will talk about Wojnarowicz’s life and work, drawing upon recently-available scholarly resources and the Whitney’s extensive holdings.
